There are some informations and several pics on legends palm 168 @palminfocenter. Legend is the newest palmos-licensee and their palm 168 pretty much reminds me of sonys clie-series. The unit is expected to ship in january 2003 in china with a chinese language version of palmos 4.2.
The first 3g symbianOS phone (developed by fujitsu) is ready to hit the japanese market! Not only is this the first symbianOS phone for japan, but also the first 3g symbianOS phone ever. Shipment to ntt docomo is expected soon.
You can find out more in the news @symbian.com, and take a quick glance at this breathtaking beauty on the ntt docomo-website (according to allaboutsymbian, the F2051 is the one powered by symbianOS).
After my blog on “mobile gaming pleasure” a few days back with a link to the infosync-review, age of empires was recently released. You can purchase it here @handango.
According to an article @the register handspring will exclusively use keyboards as primary method for textinput in all their future models. Furthermore, more and more other palm-licensees follow handsprings example (just consider sonys nx70v or palms tungsten w).
I personally have to say that i would miss graffiti. I really got used to that method of text-entry and imho it’s not all that bad. It works surprisingly well, makes few mistakes and is easy to learn. Of course there are downsides: compared to cellphones, pdas with handwriting-recognition can’t be operated with one hand properly, but neither modern pdas with integrated mini-keyboards. On the other hand, numberpads with t9-support are not as fast as fullsize mini- keyboards for text-entry. Mini-keyboards might be the fastest solution, but you still have to figure out where to put your stylus while using it (back into the silo, out of the silo, back into the silo,…). Furthermore, the graffiti-solution is very flexible and allows a great formfactor (like tungsten t with its hidden graffiti-area) or great screensize and -resolution (like NX70V with it’s hires+) and considering that pdas are used for information-retrieval rather than text-input most of the time, these solutions work well, imho.
However, I’m really excited about what the future holds for us, and considering that I’m going for a series60-symbian-smartphone, the future of graffiti isn’t really that important to me. But still, i would really miss it.
As the title says, there’s a short review of the year 2002 @brighthand. Perhaps december 8 is a little early, but it’s worth the read. I really wondered that all that happened this year…
Those news are 1-2 days old, but still worth a note, imho, since they show the way mobile gaming will go over the next few months:
First to mention is that xen games released a port of interstellar flames for Microsoft Smartphone and Nokia 7650 (that is to say: Series60). You can get it for just $ 6.99 @handango (Smartphone / Nokia 7650). Great to show off with your shiny new phone!
Second there’s a preview of age of empires for ppc
@infosync.no. What’s coming next? Age of mythology for ppc? Perhaps not, but imho just a question of time…
I’m currently looking for another provider (+ my own domain) and really hope to get the site up on the new account till the end of the month. That is to say: no more lycos-ads! I also plan to change to nucleus cms i mentioned before, i hope that’ll add some extra functionality, the current scripts are rather poor. I can’t wait for my first very own domain, that’s almost better than christmas!
Perhaps it’s a little late to start a weblog with weblogs poppin’ up everywhere on the net nowadays, but i’ll try to offer a good read to anyone willing to stop by.
I’ve planned to get a blog up and running for quite some time now. The first time i stumbled across a weblog that really caught my attention was someday in september this year. The site that got me was gizmodo and as you can guess by the title, this blog is aiming roughly in the same direction, but i plan to keep it a bit more personal and to include some views i consider interesting or important.
This blog is powered by a very simple script i wrote a few months ago and tweaked the last two days. I also considered using some established blog-tool, but for the moment i’ll stick with this simple software and spend some more time deciding for a particular solution (btw: my current favourite is nucleus). Currently there are no big plans for expanding my script cause i plan to change to another script sooner or later, but at least i want to add an RSS-feed to the site. Just don’t know when i’ll have the time to do that.
Just as a final note: if you consider my english poor, you’re right, but at least i got an excuse: i’m from austria and no native english-speaker, so please don’t judge me too hard, but i thought that i can reach a far bigger audience with a blog written in english. Perhaps my english will improve by the time with the extra training i get with this blog.
Thx for your attention and till the next time.
