Late Treo 270 Review

There’s a new review of the handspring treo 270 smartphone @brighthand. Perhaps a little late, yet a good read. I can’t wait to see how it compares to the tungsten w, especially considering its age.

New PocketPC phones

Two new pocketpc phones are showcased @pocketpcthoughts. Till now i didn’t consider a pocketpc phone edition device as successor to my beloved s45/visor edge combo (would have rather gone with nokia 3650 or se p800), but those two caught my attention, especially the hitachi: with its built-in thumbboard and digicam i already love it. Now the only prob is that i need a gsm- rather than a cdma-version.

Apple starts charging for iApps

According to cnet, apple will announce upgrade fees for three of their iapps (imovie, idvd, iphoto) on macworld. It reminded me of a post on some blog (can’t remember which one) claiming that apple makes enough money in hardware that they can give its software away for free. Some might consider this another step towards an x86-port of macosx, with apple trying to open new sources of income (don’t forget the windows-compatible ipod!), but i won’t believe that until steve jobs himself announces it.

Software radio

Software radio. I don’t know why nobody came up with something like that earlier, it just seems so obvious – i’m really looking forward to this technology and hope it’ll evolve fast, but i fear that device manufacturers seeking proprietary hardware in their struggle for monopoly will manage to destroy most of its value. Let’s hope i’m too pessimistic.

Mozart in a tin can

Sony’s working on artificial intelligence technology capable of composing music. Considering the imho steady decrease of innovation and quality in the music business and the threats of modern drm-systems, this sounds really interesting. Don’t purchase music, just buy this program and enjoy countless hours of “original” music. On the other hand i fear tv-shows featuring competing software programs in their struggle for a contract with some major record label.

A small improvement

I know that the scripts powering this site are far from being perfect, but today i added a feature that really missed: permalinks! You can get the link to one specific entry by clicking on its title. Best thing was it took less than five minutes to code. I really don’t know why i didn’t come up with it earlier. I hope to include some rss-feed next, let’s see if it takes me less than a month to start with the work this time…

The Tablet Diaries

I stumbled across a series of interesting articles @pdantic called the tablet diaries (part 1 and part 2 are already up). I can’t remember how i got there exactly, but i think via tabletpctalk. And yes, i know i ripped off their title, but i really like it and couldn’t come up with anything better.
