The basic premise is similar to League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: An amalgamation of famous 19th century literary figures lifted from the pages of Frankenstein, Dracula and Dorian Gray. The show features an all-star cast with Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Josh Hartnett and Billie Piper. Eva Green is perfectly cast and delivers a stand-out performance, but my favorite character was Dalton’s Sir Malcolm Murray.
There’s probably less action and scary moments here than one might expect based on the premise of the show, but overall production values and acting are great. I rather enjoyed the show, especially episodes exploring the background of the main characters, but was left for wanting after a somewhat anticlimactic finale which left a lot of loose threads for season two.
